Back to SERENADE'S PLACE
Sunday, August 20
Okay, I think I've finally figured out how this Blog thing works. I didn't have a template set up (cause I didn't know I was supposed to...duh), so I was losing all my formatting every time I published a post. Now that it's fixed, I can get down to the business of actually using it...lolI've been using my down time (been home sick with "severe asthmatic bronchitis") to revamp the web site. Hope you like it. Designed a whole new look cause I was so tired of the old one. I made all of the old graphics when I was just starting out, so they look kinda crude to me now....not that I'm a world class graphic artist or anything... I just have fancier tools now and a little more knowledge. Well, Robert's here...more later. Bye...

For the last 3 days I have not been able to get the theme to the "Courtship of Eddie's Father" out of my head. If this keeps up, I may need to be committed.

edit your blog: serenade's place Oooo...nifty...I just added a shortcut to my web browser so all I have to do is click on it and I can post directly to my blog! Now I have no excuse for not posting more often, but I'm sure I'll find one. *grin*

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to post anything, but I promised myself I'd start writing something here regularly. Yeah, I know I said that before, but I wasn't able to be online much for the last couple of months.
News Flash: Major overhaul of the web site is under way. Sorry for the mess.
Okay, now for the big news: I finally got the two things I've really been wanting since I moved up here almost 2 years ago: a cat and a computer! I'm going to make a page about the cat with pictures and everything, so look for a new obsession with cats to surface soon. He's a beautiful cat that some idiot abandoned and he's so perfect. From the moment I adopted him (how can you "buy" a friend?), he has acted like we have always been together. I'm glad he is letting me be his human.
As for my new computer... it is so incredibly cool! I was doing all my work at home on Robert's laptop, and it was useless for graphics. So, now I have my very own PC with a scanner and a huge monitor, so look out net, here I come!
My son came to visit me a couple of weeks ago and we had a blast together. He lives in Texas and is attending college there right now, but I keep dropping subtle hints for him to come to Illinois (Like: "Steve, why don't you move to Illinois?"). Anyway, he is an aspiring artist and is studying Graphic Arts and he really wanted to go to Chicago for the big Wizard Comic Convention. So, off we went! While we were in Chicago we went to a performance at Second City (the famous comedy club) which we both really enjoyed. The worst thing about the trip was the traffic!! Ohmygawd, those people drive like maniacs!!!! It's *almost* as bad as New York City!
While we were driving to school (I go to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville ...SIUE), we passed a sign that said "Memphis" and that was all it took for us to decide to hit the road again. Both of us had always wanted to go see Graceland ...and no, neither one of us is an Elvis fan... we just like to laugh at people who are. We did the tour of the mansion, ate at Elvis Presley's Memphis Restaurant (the food was surprisingly good), and bought lots of cheesy souvenirs. I am now the proud owner of an Elvis clock with legs that swing back and forth. He's even wearing blue suede shoes. And I got a little dog with a head that bounces up and down for my dashboard AND a pair of fuzzy dice! That place was just Bad Taste Heaven! I loved it!
I miss Steve. :( ..... But, he reminded me of a promise I made to him many years ago...it seems that I told him that I'd take him to Vegas for his 21st birthday. Looks like I'd better start saving my pennies.

Ok, I should probably get in the habit of writing something here every day, no matter how boring my day was. Yesterday we did the swimming pool thing and I got a major headache. The night was pretty much shot because my head was pounding, but we did manage to get out for some ice cream with Robert. Problems with the ex's live-in girlfriend didn't help much either. For some reason, she seems to think that her name appears in the divorce decree instead of his. She has completely taken over ...she's the Boss. Boy, has she got the wool pulled over his eyes! I just wish she would leave me alone. When the ex and I talk without her around, everything's fine...but once she sticks her nose in, all the politeness is gone. I wish he had the balls to tell her to back off and let us handle the decisions that affect our children. After all, doesn't she have enough on her plate with her own four children from her two previous failed marriages? Instead of thinking of new ways to be rude to me, maybe she should try thinking about how to develop loving relationships with her kids instead of yelling at them and grounding them all the time. < /rant > We haven't decided what to do with ourselves today... maybe go to the park or something like that. Tonight Robert is taking us all out to Chuck E. Cheese's (I can't wait...LOL) and then to the mall to find a new pair of tennis shoes for him. I'm going to miss the old pair. I got used to the cute little squeaking sound they made with every step he took.

Today was so exciting. I got to go shopping with my 3 girls. We did some major damage to the toy aisle at the local K-Mart (excuse me, "BigK"), proceeded to McDonald's for some Happy Meals with Teenie Beanies, then headed off to the movies. We saw The Rocky and Bullwinkle Movie, and while I gotta say that it probably won't be a big hit, it was rather enjoyable even for the adults because of all the bad puns that went soaring right over the little ones' heads. For example: DeNiro as Fearless Leader saying in a very heavy Russian accent, "You talking to me? You talking to me? You must be talking to me 'cause I'm the only one here." Anyway, if you've got kids, it's worth a matinee.
Whatever you do, don't miss Chicken Run -- go see it with or without kids -- you won't be disappointed. Favorite line: the two rats are sitting and watching the chickens in action as they are trying to learn to fly...one turns to the other and says, "Poultry in motion."
Next on the list to see is Dinosaur. I've seen it, but they haven't... the special effects are incredible, but the story is a bit violent. Haven't heard anything about The Kid yet, but they want to see that, too. And Fantasia 2000....I thought the original was great but incredibly boring for the most part, so I'm not sure about this one......
